For the learning process to be effective, it is very important for the learners to pay attention and engage in the learning of the presented information. Therefore, especially in distant education, presence of the learners is very important. In order to make sure that everyone is present, teachers can benefit from certain variables such as social presence, teaching presence, transactional presence and cognitive presence. First of all, Teaching Presence is the presence of the teacher. This can be observed in every lesson. The teacher has to be present to transfer the information to his/her students.
